Vol. 18 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BROADCASTING OF MARKET REPORTS.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state what are the present arrangements at the Dublin Broadcasting Station with regard to the broadcasting periodically of market reports, especially those dealing with the sale of agricultural produce; if he is aware that such reports have been broadcast recently, but as no reference to them appeared in the official programme in the daily Press their usefulness was greatly discounted, and if he will take steps to ensure that when market reports are to be broadcast due publicity will be given to the fact in the future.

Market reports have been broadcast regularly from 2 RN on Tuesdays at 1.30 and 7.25 p.m. and on Thursdays at 7.15 p.m. for some time. Notification of these broadcasts has been included in the advance copies of the programmes supplied to the Press, but they have not always been included in the programmes as published in the Press. Periodical announcements will continue to be made from the Station of the fact that these market reports are a regular feature of the programme, but beyond this I do not see what further steps I could usefully take — in view of the attitude of the Press — to direct public attention to these reports.
