Vol. 19 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SECONDARY TEACHERS' PENSIONS.

asked the Minister for Education if he is yet in a position to make an announcement on the proposed scheme of pensions for secondary teachers, and if he can say whether the scheme would apply to teachers, eligible in respect of age and service, who intend to retire at the end of the current school year.

I am not yet in a position to add anything to the announcement which I made on this subject on January 26th last in reply to a question put by Deputy Johnson. As I indicated on that occasion, should a scheme of pensions for secondary teachers be accepted by the Dáil, it may be found possible to extend the provisions of the scheme to older teachers who are eligible to share in its benefits, and who retire, with the sanction of the Minister for Education, after the date of that announcement.
