Vol. 19 No. 18

PRIVATE NOTICE QUESTION. - REDUNDANT CREAMERY STAFFS.

TOMAS MacEOIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture whether his attention has been called to complaints that creamery staffs made redundant by the creamery purchase scheme have already been dismissed or are under notice, whether he has made any arrangement for their re-employment in neighbouring creameries, or, failing re-employment, that compensation for loss of employment shall be awarded.

None of the staff of the redundant creameries has been disemployed. As a necessary consequence of the going into liquidation of the Condensed Milk Company of Ireland (1924), Ltd., on the 16th instant the entire staff had to be notified of the termination of their employment, but the liquidators propose to re-engage the entire staff, at all events for the present. Every-effort will be made to secure employment for those of the staff whose services will ultimately not be required, but of course a guarantee cannot be given.
