Vol. 20 No. 1

THE ADJOURNMENT.

In formally moving the adjournment of the House, I would ask the Leaders and Whips of Parties in the House to meet, with your permission, A Chinn Comhairle, in your room on Tuesday evening next at four o'clock, in order to make arrangements for setting up a Committee of Selection representative of the various parties in the House. I hope to be able to put before the chairmen and secretaries of these parties proposals for the business of next week. I might say, in advance, that I hope to be able to introduce the Estimates next week. I expect that will be the principal business with the two Bills left over—the Currency Bill and the Dentists Bill. If the hour is convenient, I think it would facilitate matters if the Chairmen and Whips of the various parties could meet on that afternoon. I now move the adjournment of the Dáil until Wednesday next.

Can the President say whether one of these committees to be set up will be the Committee of Public Accounts, and if it is intended that the Committee of Public Accounts shall meet before the Summer Recess?

I think that question might be discussed by leaders of parties when they meet on Tuesday and answered, if necessary, on Wednesday when the House meets.

Are we to understand the proposition is that the Dáil adjourn until Wednesday and that leaders and Whips will meet on Tuesday at 4 o'clock?

Yes, and Independent members who might wish to be represented by a person or persons, as on the previous occasion, should make up their minds in the meantime as to whom they will send.

The Dáil adjourned at 8.10 till Wednesday, June 29th at 3 o'clock.
