Vol. 20 No. 18

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAELTACHT.

asked the President whether he is now able to place before the Dáil full particulars of the Government's proposals for the development of the Gaeltacht.

The recommendations contained in the Report of the Gaeltacht Commission have been under examination by all the Departments of State concerned for a considerable time, and the various departmental observations have, on numerous occasions, been considered and reviewed by the Executive Council and by special sub-committees set up for that purpose. The examination is now almost complete, and a White Paper will shortly be issued setting forth the Government's proposals in regard to the recommendations contained in the Report.

In the meantime, so as to obviate delay in giving effect to certain of these proposals, the preliminary steps have been taken of transferring the Land Commission to the Minister for Fisheries, and of appointing a Parliamentary Secretary to assist him.
