Vol. 20 No. 20

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF PLUNKETSTOWN (KILDARE) FARM.

asked the Minister for Fisheries if he is aware that Mr. Michael Lyons, of Plunketstown, Castledermot, County Kildare, offered his above-mentioned farm of 108 statute acres to the Land Commission more than eighteen months ago for division among uneconomic holders; that matters were progressing satisfactorily until lately, when he was notified that the Land Commission would not make any bid, and can the Minister state the reason for such action on the part of the Land Commission.

The lands of Marraghbeg, Moatavanny and Plunketstown, containing 108 acres, or thereabouts, held by Michael Lyons, were offered for sale to the Land Commission, but as these lands were purchased under the Land Acts and are subject to payment of a land purchase annuity, and are not otherwise suitable for the purposes of the Land Commission, it was decided to take no further action towards their acquisition under the Land Purchase Acts.
