WRITTEN ANSWERS. - SUGAR SUBSIDY AND EXCISE DUTY.

asked the Minister for Finance (1) what was the total sum paid to the Irish Sugar Manufacturing Company by way of subsidy for the year 1926-27; and (2) what was the total amount of excise duty remitted in respect of sugar produced in the Saorstát.

The total sum paid to the Irish Sugar Manufacturing Company by way of subsidy for the year 1926-27 was £181,502 4s. 9d.; and (2) the total amount of excise duty remitted under Section 27 of the Finance Act, 1925, in respect of the sugar on which subsidy was paid was £111,702 3s. 0d.
