Vol. 22 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - WEXFORD COMPENSATION CLAIMS.

asked the Minister for Defence what amount was paid in pension or gratuity to Mrs. Gleeson, Saltmills, County Wexford, in respect of the loss of her son who was killed on October 12th, 1920, and to Mrs. Fitzgerald, St. Leonards, for the loss of her son, killed on the same date.

A gratuity of £75 was paid to Mrs. Gleeson, and a gratuity of £100 was paid to Mrs. Fitzgerald.

In view of the liberal allowances made to other cases somewhat of this kind, would the Minister reconsider these cases if application were made?

If there are any circumstances I am not aware of. I do not know what liberal allowances the Deputy is referring to.

They could be pointed out in the application.

Does the Minister consider the £75 paid to Mrs. Gleeson is adequate compensation to a widow for her only son?

It depends a great deal on the dependence.
