Vol. 24 No. 7

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TREATMENT OF POLITICAL PRISONERS IN MOUNTJOY.

asked the Minister for Justice whether, in view of the statements made by political prisoners recently released from Mountjoy Prison, in reference to their treatment, he will order a public inquiry into conditions in the prison.

The answer is in the negative. There are no grounds for instituting such an inquiry.

Does the Minister still maintain, in spite of the statements made by these persons, that there was no ill-treatment of prisoners in Mountjoy Jail?

Does the Minister refuse to make further inquiry?

I made full inquiries, and I am quite satisfied.

As I am not satisfied, I give notice that I will raise the matter when the Dáil adjourns.

The Minister will have to stay up for that.
