Vol. 24 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ARTICLE X OF THE TREATY.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state what representatives of the Irish Free State are taking part in the negotiations which are being conducted between the Government of the Saorstát and the British Government, with a view to removing the deadlock that exists in carrying out the provisions of Article X. of the Treaty, and whether he will state what special claims of a particular class of civil servant are being specially considered, and whether the negotiations include the dismissed ex-service temporary clerks.

No representatives of the Saorstát Government are taking part in negotiations with the British Government in regard to the matter referred to in the question. The Deputy, presumably, has in mind the communications which have passed between the two Governments, of which copies were circulated to Deputies on the 21st instant. These communications related to the treatment of bonus in the assessment of compensation under Article X. of the Treaty and had no reference to the claims of any particular class of civil servants.

Mr. BYRNE

Will the Minister answer the last part of the question, namely, whether the negotiations include the dismissed British ex-service temporary clerks?

On behalf of the Minister I stated that these communications had no reference to the claims of any particular class of civil servant.

Mr. BYRNE

Will the Minister say whether they are included?

I think the Deputy had better ask the Minister for Finance.
