Vol. 26 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - ACQUISITION OF CO. MAYO LANDS.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state what steps are being taken by the Land Commission to acquire the lands formerly known as the Mrs. Stack Farm, Shrule, County Mayo, and now held by Mrs. Cummins, Clonkeen, Tuam, County Galway; whether he is aware that an effort is being made to prove that this farm is a residential holding, and that for this purpose a house was built on the lands a few years ago, and whether he is aware that the house is now let to a tenant at a yearly rent of £15.

The holding of Mrs. Cummins is situate on the de Clifford Estate, which was purchased by the late Congested Districts Board and, as I informed Deputy Nally last week, the Land Commission have the question of the resumption of this holding under consideration.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state what is the cause of the delay?

There has been no delay. Negotiations are proceeding in the usual normal way.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state whether the de Clifford estate has not been in the hands of the Land Commission for years?

No; the particular portion of the estate in which this holding is situated only recently came into the hands of the Land Commission.
