Vol. 26 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TULLYBAWN (CO. LEITRIM) NATIONAL SCHOOL.

asked the Minister for Education whether his attention has been drawn to the remarks reported to have been made by the District Justice at the Ballinamore Court, County Leitrim, and to the evidence of a member of the Gárda Síochána, wherein the condition of a national school at Tullybawn, County Leitrim, was described as a scandal and as not fit to house cattle; whether he has any records in his Department which would show that this building is in an unsatisfactory condition, and, if so, whether he will state what steps he has taken or proposes to take to have these premises put into a suitable condition for the accommodation of the children of the district.

The schoolhouse referred to is unsuitable. A grant of £1,554 has been sanctioned for the erection of a new schoolhouse to accommodate 70 pupils, and to supersede the existing Tullybawn National School. This grant was advised to the Board of Works and the Manager on 29th May, 1928.

It has been ascertained from the Board of Works that tenders for the erection of the building have been received and are at present with their local officer for report.
