Vol. 26 No. 11

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DERELICT SITES IN DUBLIN.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether his attention has been drawn to the large number of derelict sites due to the collapse of tenement property within the old city boundary; whether any proposals for legislation are under consideration for future housing schemes in the City of Dublin, and, if so, whether, with a view to preventing further decay setting in within the old city boundary, powers will be given, without cost to the ratepayers, to the local authority to enable it to improve, alter, remove, repair, light and fix decent lavatory and water facilities in the existing tenement property whenever it thinks desirable.

The whole question of the control of tenement property and the utilisation of waste spaces has been and is at present under consideration by the Dublin City Commissioners. I understand the present position of the matter is that the Commissioners have instructed their Law Agent to advise as to what further powers are necessary to enable them to deal with the problem.
