Vol. 26 No. 14

IN COMMITTEE ON FINANCE. - VOTE No. 39—CHARITABLE DONATIONS AND BEQUESTS.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £1,169 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1929, chun Tuarastail agus Costaisí Oifig na dTabhartas agus na dTiomanta Déirciúla. (7 agus 8 Vict., c. 97, a. 7 agus 8; 30 agus 31 Vict., c. 54, a. 24; agus 34 agus 35 Vict., c. 102.)

That a sum not exceeding £1,169 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1929, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Charitable Donations and Bequests Office. (7 and 8 Vict., c. 97, ss. 7 and 8; 30 and 31 Vict., c. 54, s. 24; and 34 and 35 Vict., c. 102.)

The total amount of the Vote in this case is £3,169, showing a net decrease of £49 upon last year. Most Deputies are aware of what the Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests are for—what their duties are, and what work they perform. The Commissioners themselves are an unpaid body. They have very important duties to perform, the main one, of course, being to see that any money which has been left to charitable purposes shall not be misapplied by individuals and that the intentions of testators shall be properly carried out.

Question put and agreed to.
