There are two amendments in the name of the Minister to this Bill. The first amendment increases the charge within the terms of the Money Resolution, and I think the Bill must be re-committed for that amendment. Perhaps it would be simpler if the Bill were re-committed for both amendments.
HOUSING BILL, 1928—FOURTH AND FIFTH STAGES.
I move that the Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole Dáil for the purpose of considering the amendments, of which notice was given.
I move:—
"Section 3. In page 2, line 21, after the word ‘phundred' to insert the words ‘and fifty."'
The additional money will be required because of the postponement of the date by which houses shall have been begun from the 17th October, 1928, to the 1st April, 1929.
I move:—
"In page 2, line 33, Section 5, to delete the words and figures ‘17th day of October, 1928,' and substitute therefor the words and figures ‘1st day of April, 1929.'"
This matter has been fully discussed, and this amendment is to meet representations that were made by Deputies that greater latitude be given than that in the Bill to enable houses begun before the 17th October to come under the operations of this Bill. We propose that the Bill shall apply to houses that have been begun not later than the 1st April, 1929.
I would ask that the Fifth Stage be taken now.
Agreed.
