Vol. 27 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SALMON AND TROUT OVA.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state (a) what is the total amount of money set aside by his Department for the purchase of salmon and trout ova for distribution in the forthcoming season; (b) what was the estimated value of salmon and trout ova hatched in the Saorstát last season; (c) whether the percentage of salmon and trout ova to be allotted to each district for the forthcoming season has yet been decided, and, (d) if so, what percentage has been allotted to Killarney district.

(a) The sum of £1,250 is included under subhead E 2 of the current Vote for my Department for fish hatcheries. How much of this will be actually spent on the purchase of salmon and trout ova I am not at present in a position to say.

(b) The total quantities of salmon and trout ova hatched in the Saorstát last season were 7,403,000 and 676,900, respectively, the estimated value of which as eyed ova, based on market prices, was about £11,443.

(c) The allocation of such supplies of ova as may be found to be available for the forthcoming season has not yet been decided on.

(d) Accordingly, does not arise.
