Vol. 27 No. 4

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - SUBSCRIPTIONS TO DAIL LOAN.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that Miss Mary McCaul, York Street, Castleblayney, now residing at Dublin Street, Monaghan, has made numerous applications during the past twelve months for repayment of her Dáil Loan (1920) subscription of £5; that she has quoted the number of her receipt (52447), and supplied all the information she was asked for, and whether he will state the cause of the delay in issuing Savings Certificates to her, and the approximate date on which the necessary authority will be given to the Department of Posts and Telegraphs.

Any delay which has occurred in connection with the application of Miss McCaul, Dublin Street, Monaghan, for repayment of her subscription to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan is due entirely to the fact that she did not notify the Department of Finance of the change in her address until the 7th September last. The necessary particulars have now been obtained from her, and her application is being dealt with in the ordinary course.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state the number of persons resident in Valentia Island, Co. Kerry, to whom the sums they subscribed to the Dáil Loan, 1919-20, have been repaid, and what was the nature of the evidence produced by these persons on the strength of which such payments were made; and whether he will state the number of applications from persons resident in this island for repayment of the sums alleged to have been subscribed by them to the Dáil Loan and which have not been favourably considered by his Department; and whether he will state in what particulars did the evidence of having subscribed differ in the case of the latter applicant from that of the former.

The form in which the records of my Department are kept is such that the preparation of the information asked for in the Deputy's question would entail an amount of labour on the part of the staff concerned which would not, in my opinion, be justified. I may say, however, that applications have been received from persons resident in Valentia for repayment in respect of sums alleged to have been subscribed to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan, but of which there is no record in my Department, nor has any evidence been furnished in support of the application which would enable me to authorise repayment.

asked the Minister for Finance if application has been received from Andrew Parle, Ballyreilly, Kilrane, Co. Wexford, for refund of Dáil Eireann Loan, and when it is proposed to deal with same.

An application for repayment in respect of a sum stated to have been subscribed to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan has been received from Mr. Andrew Parle, Ballyreilly, Kilrane, but the evidence furnished in support of the application is not sufficient to enable me to authorise repayment. If satisfactory evidence is forthcoming the application will be further considered.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received application for repayment of subscriptions to Dáil Loan, 1919-1920, and, if so, why the amounts have not been paid in respect of the following:— Mrs. Brigid Doyle, Robinstown, New Ross, £5; Michael Stafford, Tinnecarrig, New Bawn, £1; John and William Murphy, Bridge Quay, New Ross, £50; James Murphy, Courthoyle, Raheen, Enniscorthy, £10; John O'Connor, Arenstown, New Ross, £5; Edward Neville, Tanhouse, New Ross, £5; John Byrne, Camblin, New Ross, £1; James Keogh, Cassagh, New Ross, £1; William Murphy, Ryleen, New Ross, £1; and Anastatia Murphy, Ryleen, New Ross, £1.

Applications for repayment have been received in some of the cases mentioned in the Deputy's question and are being dealt with in the usual way.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he received an application from Martin Roche, Edwardstown, Cleariestown, Co. Wexford, for refund of his subscription to Dáil Loan, and what is the cause of delay in refunding.

An application for repayment in respect of a subscription of £1 to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan was received in this case, and authority to issue a Savings Certificate in accordance with the provisions of the Dáil Eireann Loans and Funds Act, 1924, has been given to the Department of Posts and Telegraphs.
