Vol. 27 No. 4

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - INCOME REVIEW FOR TAX PURPOSES.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state what is the total income coming under review for income tax purposes for 1923-24, 1924-25, 1925-26, and 1926-27; what is the earned and unearned income in each year, and how are these amounts apportioned between each schedule of the tax in each year.

The gross income under each schedule coming under review for income tax purposes for the years 1923-24, 1924-25, and 1925-26 has been published in the Annual Reports of the Revenue Commissioners. Statistics relating to the year 1926-27 will be forthcoming shortly. It is not possible to state the gross earned and unearned income in each year, but, on the basis of the earned income allowances, it is estimated that the earned actual income under all schedules is in the neighbourhood of £30,000,000.

As regards the apportionment of earned and unearned income between each schedule of the tax, income assessed under Schedules A and C is practically all unearned, and that assessed under Schedules B and E is mainly earned. Schedule D assessments cover both earned and unearned income, but it is not practicable to segregate the gross figures.
