Vol. 28 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence whether Denis Murphy, of Caherciveen, Co. Kerry, and Stephen P. O'Leary, Shandrum, Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry, are in receipt of pensions under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924; and if so, whether he will state the amount of the yearly pension of each.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative.

The yearly pension which is being paid to Denis Murphy is £23 0s. 7d., and to Stephen P. O'Leary £23 9s. 4d.

asked the Minister for Defence whether several applications have been received for pensions under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1924, and the Army Pensions Act, 1927, after the prescribed date for the final receipt of applications; whether consideration of same has been refused because they were received too late, and whether he will take steps to extend the period so as to allow of such applications being considered.

A number of applications under the Acts referred to were received after the statutory dates fixed for the receipt of such applications—31st December, 1925, in the case of the 1924 Act, i.e., 16 months after the passing of the Act; and 30th April, 1928, in the case of the 1927 Act, i.e., 12 months after the passing of the Act. I regret I am not now able to take steps to have these applications considered.
