Vol. 28 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tariff on Paper.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is yet in a position to state the date upon which the Tariff Commission will resume the hearing of the application for a tariff on paper.

I regret that I am not in a position to state when the hearing of this application will be resumed. The present members of the Commission were re-appointed in December last for the purpose of disposing of those applications in connection with which all the evidence had already been given. When progress has been made with the reports on these applications arrangements will be made for disposing of the remaining applications, including that relating to packing and wrapping paper.

Am I to understand from the Minister's reply there is some possibility that the present members of the Tariff Commission may not stay on until the hearing of this application has been completed?

I have not been really able to arrive at any conclusion whether or not this application will be disposed of before there is any change in the membership of the Tariff Commission. I hope to be able to reach a final conclusion on that within a few days.
