Vol. 28 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Frenchgrove Farm (Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state what steps are being taken to acquire the lands known as the Frenchgrove Farm, Eager Estate, Hollymount district, Co. Mayo; whether he will state what steps the Land Commission are taking to relieve the acute congestion that exists amongst the small holders on this estate.

The lands of Frenchgrove referred to appear to be a holding of 213a. 3r. 2p., held by James Joseph Hession and Annie Fitzpatrick (wife of Patrick Fitzpatrick) as joint tenants on the estate of Francis J.M. Eager, which is being dealt with under the Land Act, 1923. The holding has been retained by the Land Commission under Section 28 (6) of the Act with a view to acquisition for the relief of congestion, and the Commissioners propose to apply to the Judicial Commissioner for an order authorising them to resume the lands.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state when this land will be available for distribution?

I cannot say.
