Vol. 28 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state when it is proposed to introduce proposals for legislation amending the Housing Acts on the lines indicated in recommendation 55 of the Gaeltacht Commission Report, which recommendation was accepted and embodied in the White Paper of Government Policy on the subject issued early last year.

Proposals in the matter will be submitted as soon as possible. The matter has been receiving the special consideration of an expert Inter-Departmental Committee. There are many practical difficulties arising out of the high cost of building and the low standard of ability to make repayment even in respect of comparatively small advances.

Is the Minister in a position to indicate how soon he will be in possession of a report from the Inter-Departmental Committee?
