Vol. 28 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplying of Railway Wagons.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that the L.M. & S. Railway Co. have refused to supply wagons to facilitate Newry merchants who desire to import via Greenore coal and flour formerly shipped direct to Newry, and if, in view of the fact that the Newry canal will not be reopened for traffic for another six months, he will make representation to the Railway Company in the matter.

I am informed that there has been no refusal to supply wagons. The only difficulty that has arisen is in the accommodation for steamers in excess of 300 tons capacity at Greenore when the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company's own steamer is in berth.

The Railway Company state that during recent weeks four coal steamers for Newry merchants have been discharged at Greenore into wagons provided on the quays.
