Vol. 28 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyduff Upper (Waterford) Postal Deliveries.

Seán Ua Guilidhe

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the amount of correspondence considered requisite to justify a daily delivery, and further, if he will supply the statistics upon which the decision was made to increase during the fishing season and to restrict during the remainder of the year delivery in the district of Ballyduff Upper, Co. Waterford.

The frequency of delivery in rural areas has not depended upon the quantity of correspondence alone. The time necessary for delivering the correspondence has also been taken into consideration. During the fishing season at Ballyduff the number of items for delivery in the area, to which a six-day delivery has been afforded, has been more than double the number during the non-season. I may add that the special facility will cease on the 1st proximo in connection with the general restriction of delivery in rural districts to three days a week.
