Vol. 28 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Court Award.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state when it is intended to pay to Henry Sheil the sum of £291 16s. 8d., representing the award and taxed costs made to him by Mr. Justice Meredith on the 31st January, 1928, in the action of Henry Sheil v. the Attorney-General.

I can only refer the Deputy to the reply I gave to the question regarding this case addressed to me by Deputy Redmond on the 11th July last.

Arising out of the Minister's answer, are we to take it that it is the settled policy of the Government to defy the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court in cases in which they are parties?

No, sir.

Will the Minister say whether his decision in this case is affected in any way by the Wigg and Cochrane case, or if that has any bearing on it?

Yes. It will be dealt with when legislation to deal with similar cases is introduced.

I take it that it will be dealt with at the same time?

Yes. We hope to have legislation soon.
