Vol. 29 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Kildare Man's Injury.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware that Michael Farrington, Blackrath, Curragh Camp, whilst driving cattle on the public road from Blackrath to Ballysax, on the 2nd May, 1929, about 3.30 p.m. was slightly wounded by a stray bullet in the right thigh when passing in rear of the rifle ranges; that first aid was rendered by military who happened to be passing in an armoured car, and who afterwards conveyed Mr. Farrington to the Military Hospital for treatment, which he is still receiving; that as a result of the accident this man is unable to work, and whether the Minister will consider the question of awarding reasonable compensation; further, whether, in order to avert such accidents in future he will have adequate precautions taken to ensure the safety of the residents, and also of the public using this road during rifle practice.

I am aware that Mr. Farrington was wounded on the 2nd instant. Arrangements are being made to have the occurrence investigated by a Court of Inquiry. I will communicate with the Deputy in due course in regard to the matter.
