Vol. 29 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Additional Accommodation in Museum.

asked the Minister for Education whether he proposes to provide the National Museum with such additional accommodation as is necessary for the exhibition of those collections which are at present in store and thus inaccessible to the public.

A rearrangement of the collections and exhibits in the Museum is being made at present. Schemes for the improvement and extension of accommodation in the Museum buildings, arising from the restoration to Museum use of the Annexe, until recently occupied for Oireachtas purposes, are at present under consideration, but it is not yet possible to say how far these measures will permit the public display of all the Museum collections.

Will the Minister inform the House whether there is any hope of exhibiting the geological survey at an early date?

When we get the annexe, with or without additions, I shall keep in mind that one of the first claims will be that of the geological collection.
