Vol. 30 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Sugar Co.'s Printing.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that 32,000 share warrants have been printed for the Irish Sugar Manufacturing Company, Carlow, by Messrs. J. Verschveren, Anvers, Bruxelles, and whether, in view of the Government subsidy given to the Irish Sugar Company steps will be taken to ensure that such work will be done in the Saorstát in future.

I understand that, as stated in the first part of the question, share warrants for the Irish Sugar Manufacturing Company, Carlow, have been printed by a Belgian firm. As regards the second part of the question, I am afraid that under the terms of the agreement with the company I have no power to interfere in such matters as the placing of contracts. I am aware, however, that the Company has placed large contracts with Irish firms and shown itself anxious to get as much work as possible done in the Saorstát so long as prices are suitable.
