Vol. 30 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Electricity Supply Undertakings.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the controversies which have been made public between the owners of provincial electricity supply undertakings in the Saorstát and the Electricity Supply Board, and if he has any statement to make relative to this matter, and if he can furnish the names of all undertakings where terms of purchase have been satisfactorily arranged, and the relation between the capital subscribed and the compensation given in each case.

I have seen some discussion of these matters in the daily Press. The terms for the acquisition of statutory undertakings are prescribed in the Electricity Supply Act, 1927. So far as non-statutory undertakings are concerned acquisition by the Electricity Supply Board can only take place on agreed terms, and I have no opinions to express as to what terms it would or would not be reasonable for either party to accept.

Inquiries on such matters as are referred to in the last part of the question should be directed to the Electricity Supply Board.
