Vol. 30 No. 12

Question on Adjournment.

Deputy Corry desires to raise on the adjournment the subject-matter of question 6. There is an amendment on the paper—amendment 7—but it does not raise the precise point that Deputy Corry wants to raise. I could not say at the moment whether any section of the Bill would enable the Deputy to raise the point he has in mind. There may be such a section in the Bill, but I am not quite sure of that.

I am quite satisfied.

Then we will take that at some other time. Deputy Cooney desires to raise on the adjournment the subject-matter of question 11. I take it the case of this gentleman is sub judice. Deputy Cooney wants to draw attention to the treatment given to this man, Mr. Francis Burke, by the Guards while he was in their custody. I think the Deputy is entitled to bring the matter up here, but not in a way that would prejudice the case when it comes before the Court. If the case is to come before the Court it is not desirable to raise it here; but, of course, if the Deputy desires to do so he can raise it. I take it that Deputy Cooney is going to raise the matter on the adjournment.
