Vol. 30 No. 12

Written Answers. - Reconstruction of Ballinamore N.S., Donegal.

asked the Minister for Education whether any tenders were received for the reconstruction of Ballinamore N.S., Fintown, Co. Donegal, before 8th May, 1929, and what is the cause of the delay in having this work, which was sanctioned in 1923, put in hand.

The lease of the school plot which was required precedent to the making of a grant was completed in November last. A grant for the enlargement and improvement of the school building was then definitely sanctioned and the fact was communicated to the Commissioners of Public Works.

Tenders for the work were obtained on three occasions before May last, and I am advised that, of the contractors, whose tenders were accepted, one withdrew, and another desired to make a considerable increase in the price tendered, which was not allowed. The remaining tenders were regarded as excessive in price.

Consequently it became necessary to obtain fresh tenders, which have been received and are under consideration.

It is expected that the work will be commenced when the school is closed for summer vacation.
