Vol. 31 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Scariff Workhouse Plots.

Pádraig O Hógáin

(Clare) asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if his Department proposes to take over possession of the Scariff Workhouse plots from the holders and users; if a process server in the area is authorised to take over the possession on behalf of the Minister, and if he will indicate what he proposes to do with these plots if, and when, he secures possession of them.

It is not proposed to take over possession from any persons who obtained regular legal possession. A number of persons entered these lands without legal authority and planted crops thereon. The Chief State Solicitor has been instructed to take such measures as he thinks fit to prevent trespass by these persons and to restrain them from using the lands without permission. As indicated in the debate in the Dáil on the subject on the 15th May, it is proposed to dispose of the lands to the best public advantage.

Mr. Hogan

Will due notice be given as to how these lands will be disposed of when the Minister's decision to dispose of them is made?

Any proposal to dispose of these lands will be placed before the Oireachtas in statutory form.
