asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he will consider the introduction of proposals for legislation to extend the terms of the promised Local Loans Scheme to schemes for the building of labourers cottages in rural areas to permit of further schemes to build such cottages being undertaken.

It is not proposed at present to introduce legislation to make loans available from the Local Loans Fund for the purpose of the erection of labourers' cottages. It is, however, open to rural sanitary authorities to proceed with schemes for the erection of cottages with the aid of the free grants available under the Housing Act, 1929, and loans raised from their Treasurers or in the open market.
