Vol. 31 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Galway Estates.

Tomás Mac Giolla Phóil

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state if the Land Commission have acquired the Ross Estate, Killanin, Co. Galway, for distribution for the relief of congestion; and whether he will state the probable date of the distribution here.

Proceedings have been instituted under the provisions of the Land Act, 1923, for the acquisition of the untenanted lands in this estate in the townland of Rosscahill East and Ross Demesne and the price for same has been determined, but possession has not been taken. The Land Commissioners hope to take possession and divide the lands at the end of the year.

Tomás Mac Giolla Phóil

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state the estates, and the acreage in each case, which have been acquired for distribution by the Irish Land Commission in the Headford and Annaghdown districts of County Galway; also the estates for which the Commission are negotiating for purchase, and the acreage and identity of the estates at present being distributed in those districts.

The returns of the Land Commission are not kept according to districts and the information for which the Deputy asks is therefore not available and could only be obtained by taking officials from their essential duties in connection with the acquisition and division of lands.
