Vol. 32 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employed and Unemployed Workers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total number of workers insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts and the percentage unemployed, distinguishing as to male and female workers, on January 1st and July 1st of each year since 1923; and further, if he will state the number of applicants for employment registered at Employment Exchanges on the same dates.

This similarly contains a number of figures, and I propose to circulate it. The information is not available in my Department exactly in the form in which the Deputy asks for it, hut I hope, that the figures I can give will serve his purpose.

The figures for the 1929 Insurance Year are not yet available. Persons registered as unemployed include both insured and uninsured workers. I am not in a position to distinguish the percentage of the insured workers alone unemployed at any period. The total numbers of males and females — insured and uninsured registered for employment on the dates nearest to the 1st January and 1st July in each year since 1923 are:—
