Vol. 32 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prevention of Diphtheria.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether his attention has been directed to a report of an interview given to the Press (Wednesday, 6th November "Irish Independent") by the Medical Officer of Health, Dublin City, concerning the prevalence of diphtheria and containing suggestions to secure immunity and whether the Minister can state if his Department have considered the question of immunisation as a prophylactic routine treatment against diphtheria and if so, with what result.

Power has been given by the Public Health (Infectious Diseases) Regulations, 1929, to the sanitary authorities of county boroughs and in counties for which a county medical officer of health has been appointed, to organise arrangements for testing susceptibility to diphtheria infection and for the administration of prohibitive agents. These regulations were circulated to all sanitary authorities on the 8th March, 1929.

Will the Minister tell us if statistics are compiled by the county medical officer of health of cases of diphtheria?

I would like to have notice of that question.
