Vol. 32 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission have yet acquired the lands on the F. McCormack Estate, Co. Galway, Record No. S. 6202, and, if so, when they will be in a position to have same divided amongst the congested tenants.

Proceedings are at present in progress under the provisions of the Land Act, 1923, for the acquisition of the lands of Ahgloragh, the property of Mr. Francis McCormack. The Land Commission will not be in a position to divide the lands until these proceedings have been completed.

I would like to remind the Parliamentary Secretary that on the 2nd November, 1928, I got a similar reply to the one he has given now. I do not think that is a great way of speeding up the division of land.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state the cause of delay in the taking over by the Land Commission of the lands known as the Trant Estate, Co. Tipperary, and what acreage it is intended to take over, and when these lands will be acquired.

The Land Commission have acquired 358 acres of the untenanted lands in the townland of Ballybristy and Killahara, the property of Captain L.D. Trant, and proceedings are in progress for the acquisition of a further area on the same estate, comprising 62 acres in the townland of Dovea Lower. The matter is being dealt with as expeditiously as possible.

The Land Commission are at present in negotiation with the owner for the acquisition of a further area of untenanted lands on this estate.
