Vol. 33 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Board of Health Houses.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he can state the number of houses owned by the Offaly County Board of Health and the amount of rent due to the Board on March 1st, 1930.

The number of labourers' cottages owned by the Offaly Board of Health and Public Assistance is 1001. The amount of rent due on the 1st February, 1930, the most recent date of which particulars are available, was £453 4s. 11d. It may be remarked that that is five times the amount of arrears that existed up to three years ago and, in the case of Leix, three times the amount at the same period.

Is the Minister aware that in Leix the amount due was £93 in September and that the amount due at the end of each quarter is much lower than in the middle of the quarter?

The figure for February date is the last I have. If the Deputy puts down a question in a short time concerning the figure for March, I will be glad to record any reduction there may be.

Does the Minister think that a sum of £93 outstanding for a total amount of 1,396 cottages is excessive at the end of a quarter?

I did not say £93.

That is the figure in September last.

I have been asked for the figure in March and I will be glad to record it when I get it.

The end of March.
