Vol. 33 No. 16

Written Answers. - Acquisition of Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that the Luean Estate, No. 4, was acquired by the Congested Districts Board nearly twenty years ago; that the holdings are not yet vested; and that as a result of the failure of the Irish Land Commission to vest, the tenants will have to pay about 87 years purchase instead of 68½ years; and if he will state when the holdings will be vested, and if any refund of the moneys paid in excess of annuities for the past twenty years will be made to the tenants.

The Lucan No. 4 Estate was vested in the late Congested Districts Board on the 3rd July, 1911. One hundred and two holdings on this estate have been vested in purchasers on re-sale, and twenty holdings are in process of being vested. The remaining holdings on the estate will be vested as soon as necessary rearrangements are completed. It is regretted that it is not possible to make any refund of the rents paid in respect of this estate.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he can say what is the present position in the matter of the vesting and division among the tenants concerned of the estate of Robert Cottingham, County Mayo, Record No. S.4672.

The Provisional List of the tenanted land comprised in the estate referred to, has been published, and the Inspector's Report has been received, and is under consideration. At the present stage of the proceedings it is not possible to forecast the date on which the holdings will be vested in the tenants.
