Vol. 34 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Site for Broadcasting Station.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if any decision has yet been arrived at as regards the locality of the site for the new Broadcasting Station.

Various possible sites for the proposed central high power station are being inspected. It is hoped that a decision will be taken at an early date.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary consider the question of erecting a temporary high power station for the convenience of those participating in the bye-election?

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that Athlone is recognised as the most central point in Ireland—the very heart of Ireland— and, in view of that fact, will he consider the suitability of that centre as a site for the new broadcasting station before deciding to erect it elsewhere?

I am aware that Athlone is, roughly speaking, the centre of Ireland. All the factors will be taken into consideration before arriving at a final decision. That decision will be taken at the earliest possible date.
