Vol. 34 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchasing Untenanted Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state under the appropriate headings the total area of untenanted land which has been the subject of purchase proceedings during the year ending 31st March, 1930.

In respect of proceedings for the acquisition of untenanted land under Sections 24, 35 and 36 of the Land Act, 1923, during the year ended the 31st March, 1930, 47,000 acres were inspected as to suitability for purchase; a price was offered or the lands gazetted in respect of 45,627 acres; prices were fixed or agreed on in respect of 23,077 acres, and 37,053 acres were acquired. The Deputy will understand that in thus detailing the processes under the various headings for a single year a certain amount of overlapping is necessarily involved, acquisition in 1930, for example, being in many cases the result of inspection in 1929. The figures given are exclusive of "Committee" lands (of which 18,874 acres were acquired during the year) and of resumed holdings.

Are they exclusive of the resumed holdings?

Yes, and "Committee" cases.
