Vol. 36 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Untenanted Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what progress, if any, has been made by the Land Commission in acquiring the untenanted lands, containing 239a. 0r. 12p., rent £209 0s. 6d., on the estate of Lord Cloncurry, held by Mary Wallis in the townlands of Newtown and Hortlands, electoral division of Donadea, Co. Kildare, and whether he will expedite the acquisition and division of these lands so as to relieve the acute congestion that exists in the district.

The lands referred to by the Deputy appear to be the holding of Mrs. Mary Wallis, comprising 239a. 0r. 12p., in the townland of Newtownhortland, held by her as a tenant at the rent of £209 0s. 6d. on the estate of Lord Cloncurry, which is being dealt with by the Land Commission under the purchase provisions of the Land Act, 1923. An Inspector's report is expected at an early date, and the question of the retention of any lands available and required for the relief of congestion will be dealt with on receipt of that report.
