Vol. 402 No. 1

Written Answers. - Heart Surgery Waiting List.

Mary Flaherty

Question:

262 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Health the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9 who was informed that she needed immediate heart surgery after hospitalisation in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9 following a second major heart attack is now on a waiting list of two to three years at the Mater Hospital where only two heart operations per week are being carried out.

I would like to explain that the scheduling of surgery is a matter for the clinical decision of the consultant concerned. I have made enquiries from the Mater Hospital who have informed me that the person concerned was placed on the cardiac surgery waiting list in June 1990 and will be admitted in the near future.
