Vol. 36 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - Firearm Licences in Co. Westmeath

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state who are the people licensed to carry firearms (as apart from sporting guns) in the Coole and Streete Gárda Síochána districts.

In the two districts mentioned there are in all three persons holding firearm licences other than for sporting guns. I do not propose to publish their names.

Where these permits are granted, have the police any jurisdiction over the conduct of these people or are they allowed to bully and carry these arms publicly?

The police have what the Deputy calls jurisdiction over all wrong-doers.

The Minister should be aware that they do not exercise that jurisdiction and that they are a party to these things which go on.

The Deputy should be aware that his party are always complaining that they exercise what he calls their jurisdiction too much.
