Vol. 36 No. 7

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Co. Meath Uneconomic Holders.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state if any change has taken place in the ownership of the estate, Record No. S. 2648, known as Crossdrum Lower, near Oldcastle; and, if so, how has this change been brought about; and whether he will further state if the position of any uneconomic holders on that estate will be considered, as well as the position of numerous uneconomic holders in that area.

The lands of Crossdrum Lower to which the Deputy refers appear to comprise a holding on the estate of William Napier, Record No. 2648, which has been returned by the owner as in the occupation of the Trustees of E. Rotheram (deceased) at the judicial rent of £621 18s. 0d.

It has recently been ascertained that the Trustees of Rotheram had lodged a rental in the Land Commission in respect of three sub-tenants on the holding, but as the Trustees are not owners within the meaning of the Land Act, 1923, this rental has been withdrawn from collection and the sub-tenants informed that they should pay direct to the tenant, their rents being subject to the provision in Section 23 of the Land Act of 1923.

The matter of the retention of the holding with a view to resumption of portion of it is at present under consideration and the position of the uneconomic holdings on the estate and in the locality will be fully considered.
