Vol. 37 No. 1

Public Business. - Financial Resolution—Report.

I propose to refer, first of all, to No. 2 on the Orders of the Day:—Financial Resolution by the Minister for Finance —Report. The financial Resolution there reffered to was moved after a recommendation had been received from the Tariff Commission that there should be an interim prohibition on the import of butter pending the consideration of an application before the Commission and the report thereon of the Commission. As the only way of prohibiting the importation of butter was by putting on a prohibitive tariff that was done by means of this Resolution. The Tariff Commission report has now been received and it recommends that a tariff of 4d. per lb. should be placed upon butter. I propose to move immediately a Resolution imposing a tariff of 4d. per lb. on butter, but before that can be done I understand it is necessary that No. 2 on the Order Paper should be got out of the way. I therefore move: "That the Dáil do not agree with the Committee on Finance in the said Resolution."

Question agreed to.
