Vol. 38 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Attendance Act, 1926.

asked the Minister for Education whether the standard of education given in schools certified as suitable schools for the purposes of Section 5 of the School Attendance Act, 1926, is required to be as high as the standard of education given in National Schools; and, if so, what steps are taken by his Department to see that this standard is maintained.

The general educational standard applicable to National Schools of a similar type is kept in view—due consideration being given to diverse circumstances—in estimating the effectiveness of the instruction in subjects taught in schools in respect of which application is made for certification for the purpose of the section in question.

Arrangements have been made by my Department to have the enquiries made, under sub-section (2) of Section 5, in all cases for the purpose of ascertaining whether certification may be continued.
