Vol. 38 No. 10

Written Answers. - Relief of Congestion at Errew, Castlebar.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that acute congestion exists on the I.H. Payton Estate, Mountdaisy, Castlebar, and on the Pratt Estate, Errew, Castlebar, and if he will state what steps are being taken by the Irish Land Commission to relieve the existing congestion on those estates.

The Land Commission have acquired on the Payton Estate two holdings in the townland of Cornaveagh, containing 16a. 2r. 37p. and 12a. 0r. 13p., which will be used for the relief of local congestion. Arrangements have also been made for the migration of four tenants, and it is anticipated that their holdings will be available for distribution at an early date.

As regards the Pratt Estate, the Land Commission have instituted proceedings for the resumption for the relief of congestion of the holding of Sir Peter Tuohy, containing 79a. 3r. 36p. in the townland of Errew.
