Vol. 38 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Castletown Estate (Leix).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries to state the date upon which the division scheme was put into operation on the Deegan (Castletown) estate, Monamondra, Errill, County Leix; whether a scheme for the drainage and improvement of the bog has been submitted and sanctioned by his Department; and when the necessary work is likely to be completed; and also, whether he can give an assurance that persons with previous turbary rights on this estate will be provided for in the scheme when sanctioned by the Commissioners.

The scheme for the division of the lands of Monamondra acquired by the Land Commission from Mr. John M. Duigan was put into operation in April, 1929. Expenditure has already been made in connection with the drainage of the bog; but until the scheme for the division of the bog, which is at present in course of preparation, has been completed, it will not be possible to state whether any additional expenditure will be made. The representations made by the Deputy on behalf of the persons who claim to have turbary rights on the bog will be fully considered in connection with the scheme.
