Vol. 38 No. 20

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Claim for Loss of Ploughs.

asked the Minister for Defence to state if his Department received an application for compensation for the loss of two new Hornsby ploughs commandeered from Rathmore Railway Station, County Kerry, in February, 1923, by the two officers then in charge of a section of the National Army: if he is aware that the applicant, Michael Lynch, Rathmore, Kerry, and several witnesses are prepared to certify that these two ploughs were so commandeered and never returned or paid for, and if the Minister will now state when his Department intends paying the amount claimed.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. Mr. Lynch's claim was fully investigated and, as the Deputy was informed on the 20th April last, the reports failed to establish its genuineness. No payment can, therefore, be made from Army Funds.
